Who am I?

Who am I? I am Adrian Ray Davis a native of Orlando, Florida who is currently pursuing an A.A. degree at Valencia Community College. Upon graduating from Valencia Community College, I hope to attain a Bachelor’s degree in Business and ultimately a Master’s Degree in Divinity. I will be the first in my family to be a college graduate. It is my hope that Valencia will serve as a stepping stone for that ultimate goal. Despite recent challenges, my motto is onward and upward.
I am a minster at a church. I have the opportunity to preach a sermon at my church on a monthly basis. This experience has forced me to clearly define what communication is. It is my job as a minister to study and understand the word of God and then to take what I have learned and explain it to the congregants of my church and most importantly to the youth of my church. This is the simplest and clearest definition of communication. Sharing ideas, concepts, ideologies, thoughts and knowledge with others.
In the Christian faith, I have learned that it is my duty to tell people about Jesus Christ. Being able to communicate is the life raft to some of those who do not know Jesus Christ as their savior. My words are sometimes the only bible people will read, or see, or hear. Communication plays a vital role in life as it is the only way that I can effectively help save souls. I rely on my communication skills daily.  I try to listen to other preachers share the word of God so that I can be a better communicator as it is the core of my job as a minister and my mandate as a Christian.
Perceptions are formed by our senses what we see, what we hear and what we observe.  My perceptions are usually formed initially by what I see. I think all of our first impression perceptions are formed that way. Unless we don’t have the opportunity to see anything then our perceptions are formed by other things such as the company kept or the writing structure of an email or the post on a facebook page.  This forms my perception of a person or a situation.
I am a 32 year old African American Christian male, I have two daughters and one son. I did not grow up with a real relationship with my father. So I try my best to be great father and not make the same mistakes my father made. All of these things make up how my perceptions are formed. For example. the way I interact with my kids shows how much I missed my father when I was child. The perceptions I have of my father has a great impact on how I treat my kids.

  1. Adrian, based on your first speech I think that you are a wonderful speaker. Moreso, I think you are very effective in communicating your thoughts both verbally and non-verbally. Based on observation, you are a very conscious speaker. You speak at a good pace and seem very aware not only of what you are saying, but also how you are saying and how the audience is perceiving it. I have no doubt that you are an amazing minister and will have no troubles pursuing your end goals in life.
